• Physical Intelligence is an American AI company in San Francisco that builds general-purpose models for robots rather than robots themselves.
• It was founded in February 2024 by researchers from Google DeepMind, Stanford and UC Berkeley, among them Karol Hausman, Sergey Levine and Chelsea Finn, with the entrepreneur Lachy Groom.
• Its vision-language-action models run from π0 (October 2024) to π0.7 (April 2026), and in October 2026 it opened them to outside robots through the Pi API beta.

Why it matters

• One of the best-funded attempts at a foundation model for robots, built by leading robot-learning researchers.
